Ingredients

  • Beef chuck, diced - 250 grams
  • Mushrooms, sliced - 150 grams
  • Onion, finely chopped - 1 medium
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Carrot, diced - 1 small
  • Celery, diced - 1 stalk
  • Beef broth - 200 ml
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh thyme - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Frozen pie crusts - 2 (9-inch)
  • Egg, beaten (for egg wash) - 1 large

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery, and sauté until softened (about 5 minutes).
  3. Add the diced beef to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Stir in the sliced mushrooms, soy sauce, beef broth, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for an additional 15-20 minutes until the beef is tender and the mixture has thickened slightly.
  5. Remove the skillet from heat and let the filling cool for about 10 minutes.
  6. Place one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and fill it with the beef and mushroom mixture. Cover with the second pie crust, sealing the edges by crimping with a fork.
  7. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape and brush the top with the beaten egg.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
