Ingredients

  • Halal beef chuck - 250 grams, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • Brown lentils - 100 grams, rinsed
  • Carrot - 1 medium, diced
  • Celery stalk - 1, diced
  • Yellow onion - 1 small, chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Canned diced tomatoes - 200 grams
  • Beef broth - 500 ml
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - ½ teaspoon
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Fresh parsley - for garnish

Steps

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery, and sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are soft.
  2. Add the beef cubes to the pot and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the ground cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper, and cook for an additional minute to release the spices' flavors.
  4. Add the canned diced tomatoes, beef broth, lentils, and bay leaf to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the beef is tender and lentils are cooked through.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Remove the bay leaf before serving.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
