Ingredients

  • Beef chuck roast - 500 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, diced
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Beef broth - 250 ml
  • BBQ sauce - 100 ml (ensure it's Halal certified)
  • Worcestershire sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Coleslaw (optional) - 1 cup for topping

Steps

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Season the beef chuck roast with salt, black pepper, cumin, and smoked paprika. Add it to the skillet and sear on all sides until browned, about 3 minutes per side.
  4. Transfer the beef to a slow cooker. Pour in the sautéed onion and garlic, beef broth, BBQ sauce, and Worcestershire sauce over the beef.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4-5 hours, until the beef is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
  6. Once cooked, remove the beef from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker and mix it with the sauce.
  7. Toast the burger buns lightly. Serve the pulled beef on the buns, topped with coleslaw if desired.
