Ingredients

  • Beef chuck roast - 500 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, chopped
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • BBQ sauce - 150 ml (halal-certified)
  • Beef broth - 200 ml
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Buns - 2 large, for serving
  • Coleslaw (optional) - 100 grams

Steps

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the beef chuck roast with salt, black pepper, paprika, and cumin.
  2. Sear the beef on all sides until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the beef broth and bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  5. Return the seared beef to the skillet. Pour the BBQ sauce over the beef, ensuring it is well coated.
  6. Cover and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for about 3 to 4 hours until the beef is tender and easily shredded.
  7. Once cooked, remove the beef from the skillet and shred it using two forks. Mix the shredded beef back into the sauce.
  8. To serve, place a generous amount of pulled beef on each bun and top with coleslaw if desired.
