Ingredients
- Beef chuck roast - 500 grams
- Onion - 1 medium, chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- BBQ sauce - 150 ml (halal-certified)
- Beef broth - 200 ml
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
- Buns - 2 large, for serving
- Coleslaw (optional) - 100 grams
Steps
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the beef chuck roast with salt, black pepper, paprika, and cumin.
- Sear the beef on all sides until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the beef broth and bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
- Return the seared beef to the skillet. Pour the BBQ sauce over the beef, ensuring it is well coated.
- Cover and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for about 3 to 4 hours until the beef is tender and easily shredded.
- Once cooked, remove the beef from the skillet and shred it using two forks. Mix the shredded beef back into the sauce.
- To serve, place a generous amount of pulled beef on each bun and top with coleslaw if desired.
