Ingredients

  • Brown lentils - 100 grams
  • Water - 250 ml
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Carrot - 1 small, grated
  • BBQ sauce - 50 grams
  • Breadcrumbs - 30 grams
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Lettuce leaves - 2
  • Tomato - 1, sliced

Steps

  1. Rinse the brown lentils under cold water and place them in a saucepan with 250 ml of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes, or until lentils are tender.
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Once the lentils are cooked, drain any excess water and mash them in a bowl. Stir in the sautéed onion and garlic, grated carrot, BBQ sauce, breadcrumbs, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  4. Form the mixture into 2 patties and refrigerate for 10 minutes to help them firm up.
  5. While the patties are chilling, preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook the lentil patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and heated through.
  6. Toast the burger buns in the same skillet until lightly browned.
  7. Assemble the sliders by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a lentil patty and a slice of tomato. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
