Ingredients

  • Canned young green jackfruit in brine - 400 grams
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Barbecue sauce - 100 grams
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Lettuce leaves - 2 leaves
  • Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
  • Pickles - 4 slices

Steps

  1. Drain and rinse the canned jackfruit under cold water. Remove the core and seeds, then shred the jackfruit with your fingers or a fork into a pulled meat-like texture.
  2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent.
  3. Add the minced garlic, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add the shredded jackfruit to the skillet and stir to combine. Pour in the barbecue sauce and mix well. Cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the jackfruit is heated through and absorbs the flavors.
  5. While the jackfruit is cooking, toast the burger buns in a separate pan or under a broiler until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing a generous portion of BBQ jackfruit on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, tomato slices, and pickles. Place the top half of the bun over the toppings.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious BBQ Jackfruit Burgers!
