- garlic, minced - 2 cloves
- smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
- ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
- black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- barbecue sauce - 100 ml
- apple cider vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- water - 100 ml
- whole grain burger buns - 2
Steps
- Drain and rinse the jackfruit under cold water, then chop it into smaller pieces, removing any seeds if necessary.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the smoked paprika, ground cumin, black pepper, and salt. Cook for another minute to toast the spices.
- Add the chopped jackfruit to the skillet and stir to coat it with the spices.
- Pour in the barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, and water. Mix well and bring to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let it cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the jackfruit is tender and can be shredded easily with a fork.
- Remove the skillet from heat and use two forks to shred the jackfruit into a pulled texture.
- Serve the pulled jackfruit on whole grain burger buns, adding extra barbecue sauce if desired.
