Ingredients

  • Matzo - 4 sheets
  • Large eggs - 4
  • Milk - 120 ml
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Butter - 30 grams (for greasing and topping)
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
  • Fresh fruit or jam - for serving (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a medium baking dish with butter.
  2. Break the matzo sheets into quarters and place them in a large bowl. Pour hot water over the matzo to soften them for about 2 minutes, then drain and gently squeeze out excess water.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
  4. Add the softened matzo to the egg mixture and stir until the matzo is evenly coated.
  5. Transfer the mixture to the greased baking dish and spread it out evenly. Dot the top with small pieces of butter.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and the eggs are set.
  7. Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, and serve warm with fresh fruit or jam if desired.
