- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Italian seasoning - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 1/2 cup (60g)
- Egg - 1 large, beaten
- Breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style) - 1 cup (100g)
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Marinara sauce - 1 cup (240ml)
- Mozzarella cheese, shredded - 1 cup (100g)
- Parmesan cheese, grated - 1/4 cup (25g)
- Fresh basil leaves - for garnish (optional)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Season the chicken breasts with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning on both sides.
- Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off the excess, then dip in the beaten egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the breaded chicken and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown. Transfer the chicken to a baking dish.
- Pour the marinara sauce evenly over the chicken breasts, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
