Ingredients

  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Italian seasoning - 1 teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour - 1/2 cup (60g)
  • Egg - 1 large, beaten
  • Breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style) - 1 cup (100g)
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Marinara sauce - 1 cup (240ml)
  • Mozzarella cheese, shredded - 1 cup (100g)
  • Parmesan cheese, grated - 1/4 cup (25g)
  • Fresh basil leaves - for garnish (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Season the chicken breasts with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning on both sides.
  3. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off the excess, then dip in the beaten egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the breaded chicken and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown. Transfer the chicken to a baking dish.
  5. Pour the marinara sauce evenly over the chicken breasts, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
